The South Jamaica Branch Library Building by Elemental Architecture
This 2 story architectural building with 1280 square meter floor area is the South Jamaica Branch Library in Queens, New York. Designed by Elemental Architecture, this integrated library building design was the first building designed and constructed under the New York City High Performance Building Guidelines and was building completed in 1999. The interior qualities including light, temperature, air quality, spatial richness and variety are result from the dynamic interactions between the building and the natural environment. The exterior form is a direct translation of the building’s program and larger environmental considerations. The library reduces the embodied energy and embodied pollution through the use of low energy and recycled materials.
