This unique armchair made for Cappellini is a modern lounge furniture grows from the cushion like a reindeer’s antlers. The antlers are made by laminating thin sheets of veneer. Most veneers are created from 1mm sheets of wood whose grain is alternated by degrees with each layer. In order to increase the strength of the stand-alone backrest, they laminated 18 sheets of 0.6 mm wood at a variance of 6 degrees each, for total variance of 90 degrees for this modern lounge. This construction produced a veneer of unusual strength, appropriate for a backrest, and a fine, beautiful finish to the end grain. This is nendo’s job and nendo has done a unique design of a kind.
